Hurricanes Weekend Recap - February 27-March 1, 2026

By Reegan MacAulay

The º£½ÇÂÒÂ× Hurricanes volleyball and hockey programs were on the road during the weekend of Feb. 27-March 1, 2026.

The women’s and men’s volleyball teams competed at the 2026 ACAA Volleyball Championships in Fredericton, N.B., while the women’s hockey squad wrapped up its regular season in Sydney, N.S.

Here’s a look at how the Hurricanes fared in Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) playoff action and Atlantic Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) regular-season play.

Women’s Volleyball

The women’s volleyball Hurricanes went 1-1 during their 2026 postseason run, sweeping the Mount Saint Vincent Mystics in the quarterfinals on Friday, Feb. 27, before falling in a five-set semifinal thriller to the top-seeded Mount Allison Mounties on Saturday, Feb. 28.

º£½ÇÂÒÂ× opened the championship on Friday with a straight-set victory over the Mystics (25-17, 25-22, 27-25). After a tight opening set, the Hurricanes pulled away late and carried that momentum through the match. Mount Saint Vincent pushed back in the second and third sets, including a 23-23 tie in the final frame, but º£½ÇÂÒÂ× stayed composed to complete the sweep.

Senior Jenna O’Neill earned Hurricanes Player of the Game honours with 15 kills, one ace, 13 digs, and one block.

In Saturday’s semifinal, the Hurricanes came within a set of the championship final. They stunned the regular-season champions early, taking the first two sets 25-17 and 25-20 to put the Mounties on the brink.

Mount Allison responded with a dramatic comeback, claiming the next three sets, including a nail-biting 15-13 decision in the fifth, to end º£½ÇÂÒÂ×’s season in heartbreaking fashion.

Marissa O’Donnell was named Hurricanes Player of the Game after recording 42 assists, along with four kills and four digs.

Mount Allison went on to win the championship over UNBSJ.

The women’s volleyball Hurricanes’ season is now completed.

Men’s Volleyball

The men’s volleyball Hurricanes saw their playoff run end as quickly as it began on Saturday, falling 3-1 to the second-seeded Université de Saint-Anne Dragons in semifinal action.

Despite the result, º£½ÇÂÒÂ× forced the Dragons to earn every point. After a tightly contested opening stretch in the first set, USTA pulled ahead and secured a 25-21 win. The Hurricanes jumped out early in the second, but the Dragons responded to take control and win the set 25-18.

º£½ÇÂÒÂ× found its breakthrough in the third. Building an early lead and maintaining momentum down the stretch, the Hurricanes closed out a 25-17 victory to force a fourth set.

With a spot in the final on the line, the teams battled neck-and-neck to start the fourth, until USTA created separation midway through the frame. The Dragons held on for a 25-18 win to seal the match victory.

Rookie Keiran Hamlin was named Hurricanes Player of the Game after leading the team with 15 kills and three blocks.

The men’s volleyball Hurricanes’ season is now completed.

Women’s Hockey

The women’s hockey Hurricanes split their regular-season finale against the Cape Breton Capers on Saturday and Sunday, March 1, in Sydney, N.S.

º£½ÇÂÒÂ× dropped Saturday’s contest 4-1 before bouncing back with a hard-fought 3-2 overtime win on Sunday. Team captain Kristyn Taylor sealed the finale with a breakaway goal in overtime, helping the Hurricanes close out the weekend and the regular season on a high note.

The Hurricanes finish the regular season third with a 5-7-0 record.

They now turn their attention to the 2026 ACHA Championship, where they’ll return to Sydney next weekend – March 6-8 – with a historic streak – and a growing dynasty – on the line.
