Hurricanes Weekend Recap - October 11, 2025

By Reegan MacAulay

It was a lighter weekend on the º£½ÇÂÒÂ× Hurricanes' calendar, with just one team in action for one game on Thanksgiving weekend. However, the outcome served a sweet Thanksgiving feast in the form of a commanding performance on the road by the football club.

Here’s what went down for the º£½ÇÂÒÂ× Hurricanes in Atlantic Football League (AFL) competition on Saturday, Oct. 11.

The football Hurricanes (2-3) returned to their winning ways with their second win of the 2025 AFL season and second against the Saint John Falcons (0-5), bouncing back from a rough start to dominate the remainder of Saturday’s match at the Canada Games Stadium in Saint John, N.B.

Saturday, October 11th - 46-13 W @ Saint John Falcons

Not long after kickoff, the Falcons jumped to an early 7-0 lead with a passing touchdown and a successful kick. The Hurricanes quickly struck back and went on an offensive rampage for the remainder of the contest, starting with a passing touchdown from rookie quarterback Ben Chomolok (Parksville, B.C.) to second-year receiver Mike Henneberry (Halifax, N.S.).

The two later connected for another passing touchdown, which helped the Hurricanes take a 24-7 lead. Rookie running back Mason MacKenzie (Charlottetown, P.E.I.) had a career-best performance with three rushing touchdowns, all leading to 14-7, 34-7, and 46-7 scores.

On top of their outstanding offense, º£½ÇÂÒÂ×’s defense and special teams also proved too much for Saint John, with numerous picks, interceptions, and field goals preventing the Falcons from mounting a comeback.

º£½ÇÂÒÂ× has one regular-season game remaining to try to carry a winning streak into the playoffs, with a home-turf clash against the league-leading UNB Reds next Saturday, Oct. 18. This will be a must-see rematch of the Oct. 4 game in Fredericton, N.B., between the Hurricanes and Reds, which went in UNB’s favour, albeit a hard-fought effort by º£½ÇÂÒÂ×.

Notably, the Reds are no longer undefeated after a nail-biting loss to Dalhousie on Saturday. More to come and cover in our next weekend preview!
